To all my fellow Iowa cyclists, please look into and consider holding a Ride of Silence in Iowa cities on May 17th, to coincide with the national Bike Month.
I am the Director of the Michigan Ride of Silence and proud to say we have 17 confirmed locations for 2006 (up from 5 in 2005), still leading the nation, and I'm hopeful this grows to 25 by May. I will again organize the Grand Rapids MI Ride of Silence.
If anyone considers this, PLEASE feel free to contact me as I have plenty of info on the Ride and how to organize one. Two weeks ago I sent an email to all Mich. coordinators on how to start/organize a ride, based on my experience last year and feed back from across the US, Canada and Australia (120+ held worldwide in 2005, 100 in the USA).
In an email to all affiliated LAB bike club reps. 2 weeks ago, Andy Clarke, the Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists urged all clubs to support and attend 2006 Rides. To give it national exposure, he and LAB V. P. Preston Tyree will travel to Texas in May, to attend the 2006 Ride in Dallas, it's birthplace.
If you decide to host a Ride of Silence in your area, please register it at the Ride of Silence website. We continue to hear of cities that held Rides last year, but weren't registered. (this is so we can keep an accurate record of locations, and eventually how many cyclists attended the Ride each year.)
Please Consider.
