So, I've been thinking that I need a geared bike that can be ridden on the road and maybe carry some stuff for light, weekend-type tours/camping trips. This got me to thinking about collecting more and more bikes and how that jives with my goal of not accumulating too much stuff. The justification that I've come up with is that if I want to get more bikes, I need to get rid of stuff somewhere else in my life. I really do have more stuff than I need or use. Anyway, I was wondering how many bikes you people have and what they are/how much you ride them, etc. Whatever you wish to submit. Here's my list.
*1 geared, hardtail MTB (early 90s Gary Fisher Hookooekoo) *1 geared (sort of) MTB w/fenders & rack (early 90s/late 80s Specialized Hard Rock) - this is my daily commuter, though hopefully not for long *1 fixed conversion (late 80s Schwinn Traveler) - fun bike
Stuff I'd like:
*either a touring or cyclocross bike for road rides/short tours (considering Surly Crosscheck, Bianchi Volpe, etc) *maybe a SS MTB to make into a nice winter bike? *maybe a nice old English-style 3-spd?

My primary bike is a Fuji Touring model. Next in line is a GT Saddleback MTB, which gets mostly town duty, and spending most its time on my trainer is a '90 Schwinn World Sport.
Still, I'd love to acquire a few more, notably a good ol' vintage 3-speed for dinking around town, one of those Milwaukee Bicycle Company fixed gears would be sweet, and I've even pondered buying a stick bike, for those times when I want a little speed.

I currently use 2 bikes; a MTB for all things offroad and a cyclocross for all things on. But I would like a third one for century rides which would essentially split the road duties between the cyclocross and century rig. Utility efforts for the cross bike and mileage gobbling for the century bike.

Timmy - those Milwaukee Bicycle Co. bikes are gorgeous. they're not cheap though, are they?
jaghouse - what cyclocross bike do you have? do you like it?

I have a Kona Jake the Snake. Its a good bike but I want to try steel. Is the grass greener on the steel side of the fence? The offerings from Soma look sweet:

Definitely not, Jay, but what's the old saying--"good food isn't cheap and cheap food isn't good?" That applies to bikes, too, right?
I did get to take a test spin on a Milwaukee and it was a sweet ride.
