Woodward is planning on holding a public meeting regarding the Ankeny ot Woodward trail on the evening of March 21. Both Woodward and Madrid are really excited and have some great ideas brewing. Sounds like there is a big equestrian group in the area that would like to see horse accomadations on at least the sections near those cities.

Are equestrian trails a good match with the bicycle/ped use?

Parts of the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail have parallel trails, one for hikers and bikers and one for the horses. Plus sides are more people involved with trail maintenance and more community support. The other side is with the HOINT being limestone surfaced horses can really tear it up if they stray onto the ped/bike section. Also more education on trail etiquette and signs are needed along with larger parking lots for maneuvering and parking the trailers.

We are hoping to have presentations from Lisa Hein, Mike Wallace (Dallas County Conservation), and the communities of Madrid, Slater, Sheldahl and Woodward.
