Hi all! If you are anything like me you are constantly trying to better yourself and you have heard a lot about the CVNT but have never ridden it. I am now better. Today I can proudly declare to you that not only have I heard a lot about the CVNT but I HAVE ridden it! Here is the story. We left Hiawatha, IA at 8:00 pm on Friday July 22, 2005 hell-bent for Evansdale. This was the first leg of our LIT this year. RAGBRAI OR BUST! As we pedaled the 52 miles we saw some Deer. We saw the sun set. We saw two Skunks. Scary! We saw an Opossum and a Racoon. We saw a few Cats. Cootie took a Bat to the chin! We saw an Owl! Honest. It was in the trail and as we came up on it it flew off, but just up the trail a piece and then it landed in our way again. It flew ahead three times before it finally took off for good. Riding the trail was great and I would like to do an out and back night ride on the trail during the full moon in September or October. I did a similar full moon trip on the Hennepin Canal in Illinois a couple of years ago and it was really cool. I'll let you know how that goes but in the meantime get out there and give the Cedar Valley Nature Trail a try, you'll be glad you did!

i rode the cedar valley nature trail sometime last year...
it was during daylight hours however...and it sounds like there is a lot more going on under the cover of darkness...
let us know the closer this fullmoon night ride becomes...as i would be most interested in joining you...
i secretly want to take a bat to the chin...and not the louisville slugger type...

You wanna take a bat to the chin, weiner? All you gotta do is wait 'til you see 'em flying around above you and start whistling. It took two seconds for my batty friend to hone in on my mouth and BLAMMO!
Besides being a bit surprised, we were both okay.

Hi. First post, like the site. My brother and my brother-in-law and I rode the opening of the CVNT, and it was a blast. I really hope to do it again soon. We were esp. lucky in that even tho it was July it was a cloudy/cool day. I am 45, grew up in NE Iowa and am a UNI grad, and now live in Boulder CO, but I come back to Iowa 3-4 times a year, and I really enjoy riding the CF trails and the scattered rail trails between DM and CF (Comet, 4-Mile, Chichaqua, etc). I even plan to move back to Iowa or at least spend spring and early summer there when I turn 50, and am planning some kind of multi-day trip using rail trails, I am hopeful there will be many that are connected by then. In the meantime, I really enjoy these trails. I also hope to spend time doing multi-day trips in Wisconsin using their impressive system of trails.
Anyhoo, cool site-Santos
