a friend of mine that lives in coralville is putting together a petition to present to the coraville city council in regards to the lack of maintenance to their paved trails...mainly their lack of clearing the snow from them...as north liberty and iowa city seem to do so well...
he has called and talked to the mayor...who has said that it's the city attorney's decision...he has talked to the city attorney...who has said that the decision has to do with liability...
he is planning on getting a group of cyclists together to ride to coralville's city hall on february 27th to present the petition to them...
he has supplied each of the bike shops with the petition...so come on down and show your support to try to get coralville to get its act together...!

Hello, my name is dan dirst and am doing the petition for coralville trail snow removal . we are trying to encourage the city of coralville to maintain the trails year round. i know there a lot who use these trails daily and with the ice/snow situation it makes it nearly impossible to pass, even on foot!
there are petitions at all of the local bike shops and we will be going door to door for even more signatures. tell all of your friends!!!!
if you would like to join us we are planning on riding our bikes to the city council meeting on feb. 27. the meeting starts at 7:00 and we will be there a little earlier. if you would like any info or have any questions please email dirst@hotmail.com
thanks to michael at the broken spoke for posting this!!!!!

Hey so what happened at the meeting? Was there chanting and stuff? Did WE win? I was at a boring Bike to Work Meeting so I could not be there to expose myself. Sorry. So what happened, though?!?!?!?

Hello, the meeting seemes to have gone ok, we had 110 signatures on the petition. The mayor seemed to respond well but the city attorney did not answer any questions directed at him, I was supposed to hear from the coralville parks dept. shortly after the meeting, they have not called. I left a message today with their office. We are planning on going down more over the summer, with more research being done on our part, it should be hard to tell us no. we are doing some research on North Liberty and iowa city and the number of reported accidents caused by slipping and falling on the plowed trails. So far i have only heard of 1 in iowa city that went to court and that was 11 years ago! The only info i could get for north liberty is that they did not have any this past winter and no outstanding cases from the past. We are also trying to find out what other communities in Iowa that have well developed trail systems do not plow or maintain in the winter. If anyone has any information that might be of help please email to dirst@hotmail.com. thanks much for the interest and lets keep fighting!!!!
