Wow, it was really rather cold this morning, wasn't it. Thankfully I have a pretty short ride to work. It got me thinking about cold weather bike wear. What do you guys wear for riding when it's this cold outside? I had a short-sleeved shirt under a hooded sweatshirt under a fleece (pit-zips in the open position :-)). I broke out the $5 faux leather gloves that one of my in-laws gave me for xmas last year and went with the stocking hat/hood combo. I also dug out the Wigwam merino wool socks (I love these - soft, warm, breathable). As an aside, there's this: aistigave.hit.bg/Logistics/

Jay you sure are plucky! If this morning was cold you best get a bus pass or something! Just kidding. There is an old Norse saying that there is no such thing as bad weather, just wrong clothing. There is lots of stuff out there you can buy to get you to the top of Everest on your bicycle, but you probably have plenty of stuff in your closet to get you through this winter. Big hat, nice gloves or mittens, I love flannel lined jeans, wool socks, hiking boots if the snow flies will keep your feet nice and dry and toasty, winter coat, scarf if you have it. I am not a believer in the need for cycling specific commuting garb. Them folks don't wear nothing special to drive them SUV's around in the snow and neither do I.

If by "plucky" you mean "fv<k1ng hardcore", then yes, yes I am. ;-)
Seriously though, the flannel lined jeans are a favorite of mine as well. Unfortunately, I prefer to avoid changing clothes when I get to work, so those are sort of out for me (for work days anyway). I think I need a new hat though. The one I have barely covers my ears. And that just won't do, now will it.
